Animation Skills - Storyboarding

Section of "Hey diddle diddle" storyboard.

Best Frame.

In my first lesson of Animation Skills, I learnt about the importance of storyboarding as a pre-production process. Although I have done animation before I have done little in terms of storyboarding and I found this lesson really beneficial. I learnt about composition, shot framing, camera angles, camera movement, pacing and timing. I also learnt that when designing/ creating a storyboard I should consider the lighting.
As a task I was told to create a story board based on a nursery rhyme using paper editing (each frame is drawn on an individual sheet of paper, post-it notes in my case, so they can be quickly removed or re-arranged to help the story flow better). I found that paper editing is a really useful technique and it allowed me the freedom of experimenting more freely with different shots and camera angles as well as experimenting with events in different orders.
I feel that I did well with today's task and I received some positive feedback for my efforts. From the feedback I know that my choice of camera angles are working well, however, I think I need to experiment with adding a foreground, middle and a background to make the scenes look less flat.
Overall, a good day,
