Applied Animation: Decision Making

For this brief we are given the choice of choosing one out of three options to explore and develop. This brief focuses on the aspect of animation being used in a practical sense and being applied to other contexts rather than just being used for entertainment. Unlike other briefs we have tackled before, this brief is a lot more open and we have a lot more free reign on what we choose to do and how we choose to do it.

Like I said before there are 3 briefs that we have to choose from and these include; Idents; Titles; Campaign. I know from a quick glimpse that I definitely don't want to do the Campaign brief, as I feel that the subjects are very serious and I don't want to end up doing something that will make me feel unhappy or put me in a position where I get affected by the topic I am studying. I also feel that I'd struggle with this one the most, as I don't know much about either charity and whilst I am very capable of researching into these charities, again, I don't want to become too upset by the work that I am doing.

This leaves me with Idents and Titles to choose from (a tough one!). Idents involves me creating two animations for TV channels that are each very different from the other. At a quick glimpse I know which two TV shows I would want to focus upon, E4 and the Discovery Channel, simply because I am very familiar with these two programmes and I feel that I would be able to come up with some ideas that I could easily bounce off from. I wouldn't feel as confident animating the other two channels, as I am extremely unfamiliar with them and although I can research into them, I still don't feel as though I'd be confident enough to create any strong ideas.

This leaves the last brief option, Titles, and I feel as though that I would be able to create a much better response to this brief, as I read a lot of different books and I have a very broad range to choose from. Thinking of it now briefly, I think I would attempt to create a title sequence for one of Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels other than The Colour of magic or Hogfather, as these are already films. I also feel choosing a Terry Pratchett novel will be beneficial as it will give me a very large variety to choose from.

Now it's time to choose which book I want to animate...
