For the first sound that I looked at, I decided to go for the simple, yet effective image I created using chalk. I chose this combination of colours and materials because I really liked the way the chalk created such vibrant, bold colours, which I was struggling to create using other materials such as paint and coloured pencils. I also really like the texture that the chalks make and I feel that this will give a nice aesthetic to the animation.
For the second sound I went with chalk again, as it allowed me to create a soft edge to the lines I was creating. The sound itself was quite 'fuzzy' and I felt that the texture of the chalk would help to capture this 'fuzziness'. However, I don't feel that chalk would be a good material to animate with for this sound and I'm thinking that I could possibly create a similar effect using coloured pencil for the animation. I also feel that this image isn't as strong as my first image, as I don't think it captures the sound 100% like the previous one.
For this sound I chose to use watercolours as my medium, as I felt that it linked in nicely with the watery atmosphere the sound had. I decided to go with this image, as I feel that it captured the sound well. The circles were a good indicator that the sound was pulsing and I liked the perspective of the image. I also feel that this image will translate into an animation well.
Sticking with the theme of water, I again used watercolours for this image. I decided to go with this image because of the fact that the sound made me think of bursting bubbles every time I listened to it. I also really liked the composition of the experimental drawing and I feel, again, that it will translate well into an animation. I also chose this image because I really liked the colour pallet and I felt that it linked nicely with the sound it represents.
Finally, I chose to represent the last sound with this image because whilst I was listening to the sound it was very confusing after a while and the sounds appeared to merge together into one big continuous sound. However, I am a bit puzzled as to how well this will translate into an animation and I may have to alter the image in order to make it work as an animation.
Overall, I am pleased with the outcomes I have come up with, as I found this part of the task very difficult. I feel that this difficulty is visible throughout the drawings and I feel that they could all be made better and this is something I will look at doing if I have time towards the end of the brief. Having said this, I feel that I have 5 images that I can work from to create 5 animations that represent the sounds I have chosen.
