Apply: Ideas

Last Thursday we were given the final brief for Animation Skills called Apply. The thought of having to create a 5-10 second animation or 20-30 second Pixilation in the space of 8 days is actually quite daunting to me (I did have 12 but I forgot about it like usual). I feel that this final brief, although quite simple, will challenge me more than the others, as I have free reign over the content and such. In order to reel in my excitement enough to focus upon creating the short animation I began to generate ideas based on the 7 words we were given as a theme (surprise, happiness, fear, love, hate, lateness, longing). This allowed me to sift through the words that stood out to me and the words that I was struggling to produce any ideas for at all. This left me with three; fear, love and surprise.

After looking through each of my ideas I decided to go with surprise, as it stood out at the most. Based on the ideas I had for a character I feel that the best way to present this animated short would be through hand drawn animation. This is because I feel that the style would suit the story really well and help to communicate the message clearly. I also feel that digital animation might work well for this and if I have time I will possibly explore this use of medium too. I have also chosen to work in traditional drawn animation because I feel that I need to work on my timing and spacing some more and I feel that this would be the best way to do so for me.
